The building work will mean that unfortunately our church will be closed for the duration of the project, a period of about 3 months, during which time our congregation will join and support the other churches in Owmby Group. We very much hope to be able to resume services in December.

At St Michael & All Angels, Hackthorn we are so grateful to the National Churches Trust and Marshall’s Charity for the grants towards the cost of the urgent repairs needed to make the roof watertight.  We work hard to keep our lovely church welcoming and well cared for – having a leaking roof has made this very challenging!

Such a large project is extremely daunting but being able to carry out the much needed repair with the help of these grants will ensure the future of the building that means so much to so many. When the building is watertight again, we shall work towards restoring the internal decoration which has been impacted by the leaks and begin to address the damage that has been done to our historic organ. As stewards of this significant building, we want to do our best to ensure its future as a place of worship and an important focal point in our community. Once again, we are very grateful to the National Churches Trust and Marshall’s Charity for this support.

Normanby Educational Charity is a fund which is paid out annually and available to all students, up to the age of 25 years old, resident in Normanby by Spital* The fund is not means tested but students must be in full time education and resident in Normanby by Spital, irrespective of where they are educated.

Application should be sent to me at the address below and include the following: Names and addresses of the applicants, their ages and which year they are in at school. Also please state the date they became residents in Normanby by Spital or started school if it was after October 2020.

Note that all students over the age of 16 must make the written application themselves giving their date of birth and brief details of where they are studying, the year they are in and the subjects being taken.

To help with the allocation of funds, please ensure that all the above information requested is include in your application.

Applications must be received by Saturday 4th December 2021 at the latest. Unfortunately, applications received after this date will not be accepted as the allocations have to be prepared in time for the Meeting of the Trustees.

*Please note due to the terms of the Trust only students, resident in Normanby by Spital are eligible to apply. If you are interested in finding out more about the bequest that was made in 1777, for the education of the children of Normanby by Spital, there is a plaque in Normanby by Spital Church. The plaque can be found above the arch on the bell tower wall, commemorating the benefactor and the original terms of her bequest.

I am trying to find information about the attached spoon.

I was born at Spridlington 1941 and left in 1944.  I was given a Christening Spoon, and would like to know if all children who were Christened at Spridlington Church at that time received one.

We understand a Jeweller lived on Owmby Road at the time and may have arranged these.

My parents were Mr and Mrs J Edison – who were employed by Walter Allbones Farmers of Spridlington Cliff.
